Celebrity hair stylist Tara Smith launched her organic hair care range at a celeb studded party last week in London and we were there to mingle and try out the product.

Natalie Imbruglia, Rosario Dawson, Model Lisa B and June Sarpong all attended the launch of their favourite hairdresser's product at the Hempel Hotel.

Tara Smith's extensive client list also includes Demi Moore, Anna Friel and the Sex and the City cast. The tag line on the new natural hair care range is rather suitably: “Tested on film stars, not on animals.”

Tara was tearful with pride as she spoke of the products which are made in the UK with organic ingredients.

She said: 'It was important to me to develop a professional-standard line that’s not only environmentally friendly, but accessible to everyone with a realistic price tag.”

The range will be available in Tesco from October and, having tried it, we recommend stocking up.

The Dark Knight has been this year's most talked about film so it's no surprise that this week's premiere was one of the most hotly anticipated.

Complete with Batmobile, the stars of the new movie made their way down the red carpet to a cacophony of screaming fans.

In the film Christian Bale reprises his critically acclaimed role as Batman but it is the late Heath Ledger's role as the Joker which has been the biggest talking point for critics and fans alike.

Bale said of Ledger's performance: “He deserves all the credit that people are giving him.”

Talking Abba

The all singing, all dancing movie version of hit stage show Mamma Mia has proven to be a huge hit and it's good news for the stage show producers too as the ticket sales for the West End show have gone through the roof.

One of the stars of the show, Melissa Jacques talked to us about the show, Abba and Meryl Streep. Throughout most of the week Melissa plays part of the ensemble but as the understudy to one of the lead characters on Monday she steps into the limelight to play Donna, the same role Meryl Streep plays in the movie.

We went to watch the show and found ourselves immediately uplifted and couldn't help but feel the cast members must leave the show with a buzz after every performance. “You're up there every night singing these songs over and over so you can't really be in a bad mood especially in a show like this where your always getting audience reactions, its great.”

What's impressive about both the show and the film is just how uplifting Abba songs can be. Despite the catchiness we thought there surely must be a point where you can't bear to hear another Abba song, Right? “No I don't think you can,” assures Melissa. “I do get asked by relatives to sing though. I was at a wedding the other day and I was asked to do karaoke, I sang Tina Turner and then switched to Dancing Queen and suddenly the dance floor was packed. It just goes to show it is one of the greatest pop songs ever written and people still remember it to this day.”

She's not exagerating. After the show we went to everyone was on their feet dancing to dancing queen. And it's not just older people. “What always surprises me is at the end of the show when people are on their feet you see 7 year olds singing the words,” says Melissa.

Despite the happy buzz the sheer amount of singing (it's almost non-stop) moving and action must be exhausting. Melissa tells us: “In the ensemble when we're not on stage, we're singing in the booth. During the show its all live, people are on and off, moving stuff around, changing costumes, but you still have to get up there and give 100%. It's on 2 Fridays and 2 Saturdays so it can get very tiring.”

But the woman is clearly a glutton for punishment after starring in the show for over 4 years. As part of the original cast Melissa was invited to re-join the cast after some other projects and is back for the 10th anniversary.

And now there's a film which has garnered almost as many positive reviews as the show. After seeing the film Melissa has nothing but praise for the cast and particularly Meryl Streep who she describes as “phenomenal” but does she now worry her performance will be compared to Meryl Streep? “The way they're both done is very different,” she says, “the show is very different to the film, and the show has been around for longer, so there's no possible way people can start to think like that and compare the two. You get different feelings from the two,” she says although she admits the first time she went on after seeing the film that there were certain Merylisms to her performance.

Admittedly the film is a fun-filled cinematic extravaganza with a star cast but there is something undeniably special about the buzz of seeing Mamma Mia performed on the West End stage with the superb theatrical cast.

Plump Up The Volume

I remember the first lip plumper I ever bought, back when they were a pretty new concept. It was Duwop’s Lip Venom and I bought it on my first trip to Harvey Nichol’s in Edinburgh.

A small little tube of gloss which hurt like pin pricks when I liberally applied it to my smacker, and gave me a deadly, bee stung pout. I had a love hate relationship with that vial of tingly product, it hurt like hell but made my meagre lips bloom with a deep pink flush and swell into an ample size.

Lip Venom uses spices, such as cinnamon, to promote circulation and bestow a full pout but there are now a myriad of lip plumpers on the market which maximise pouting potential in more ways than one. We take a look at three top-notch lip amplifiers.

Too Faced Lip Injection
Ouch! Lip Injection is right, this lip plumping lacquer has quite a bite and you could be forgiven for thinking you had just undergone the needle. Paris Hilton and Cher both use this lip tingling treatment to make the most of their mouths. Vitamin E and a bunch of circulation stimulants increase blood flow and fill up your kiss-giver. The effects start immediately, building up over the first five minutes of prickly put plumping and lasting for a good few hours. Sadly, the outside edge of the lip also gets affected and turns a blotchy pink for the good part of an hour.

The Verdict: 3/5. It speedily turns scrawny lips super-sized, but the ouch factor is too much for my sensitive skin.

Dermaquest C-Lipoic Lip Enhancer
On first application this lip lifter took me a little by surprise. I was expecting the usual culprit; a syrupy and thick gloss. Instead I found my lips were laced with a fine sheen of moisturising and slippery salve. Not quite a lip gloss, definitely not a waxy balm… but somewhere in between. My first impressions of the lip enhancer were not great, the familiar stinging lips which I am so used to, and make me feel like I can tell my lips are growing by the second, was replaced by a very faint tingling sensation. There were no immediate results, I felt as though nothing was happening and my lips and I were left feeling under-whelmed and deflated. I don’t give in easily though and persevered, applying it often and liberally. By the end of the day I was hooked, my kisses were moisturised, soft and supple, and with continued use my lips were plumped up in a healthy, hydrated way. It now has a home in my make-up bag and I use it morning and night, as I would a moisturiser.

The Verdict: 4 /5. For long term, full lips this moisturising treatment has poutential, but if it’s an instant pout with clout you’re after then it’s not for you.

LipFusion Color Shine by Fusion Beauty
Catch me! I think I’m falling in love! Apparently you needn’t use a syringe to add some extra collagen to your lovely lips. LipFusion contains dried out collagen which is mall enough to penetrate the skin, this collagen then seeks out water within the lips and soaks it up. As it drinks up the water the spheres of collagen expand and the result is a full, poutrageous mouth. LipFusion is totally free from irritants so there’s no feeling of burning on application. The results are long lasting too; my lips went from scrawny to scrumptious in just a few minutes and stayed that way until the next morning. You don’t need to keep applying this gloss to keep the results, but the colours available in the range will mean you’ll want to. The latest addition to the range are ‘Sugar’, a deep nude pink, and ‘Bloom’, a radiant natural rose; apparently these shades offset yellow tones in teeth and give the illusion of a brighter, whiter smile. I’m not totally convinced, but I do know that they are universally flattering shades.

Verdict: 5 /5. Soft, smooth and sumptuous lips with lasting fullness and beautiful colour.

Music to our ears

Such is Apple’s monopoly over the world of music, that they now carry the clout to take over one of London’s premier music venues for an entire month.

Not only that, but they’ve managed to secure a line up for the second iTunes festival that comprises a succession of the UK’s most prominent talent, young and old - Dizzee Rascal, McFly, Paul Weller, Feeder and The Zutons to name a few will grace the Koko stage throughout July.

Tonight it’s the turn of The Music to showcase their wares to the crowd of fans and competition winners, and this is not a bad opportunity to do just that- no one is more powerful than Apple, after all.

This Leeds four piece were on the verge of superstardom in 2001, with the release of their brilliant debut album, a few successful singles, and support slots with the likes of Oasis to boot. Then it all went a bit quiet, and second album Welcome To The North went almost unnoticed. But they’re back for a third bite of the cherry, and latest offering Strength In Numbers is a triumph, pushing the band back to something of the prominence they deserve.

The Music appear on stage to a surprisingly early rendition of their finest hour, Take The Long Road And Walk It, and the crowd’s reaction proves they are worthy of their place on the bill at a festival of this calibre - they tear the roof off. The Spike follows, a stand out track on the new album, and indeed tonight.

This is a band with a truly excellent sound, merging the heavier end of indie with a perfectly fitting beat laden rhythm section, to form the sort of dance rock that Pendulum wish they could write. Classics like The People, The Truth Is No Words and Getaway are blended with newer efforts such as Strength in Numberseffortlessly and an hour and a quarter flies by as if it hadn’t even begun.

Reading and particularly Leeds are in for a treat over the August Bank Holiday. Incendiary stuff.

Gotham's Greatest

In the follow up to 2005's Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan has created a dark masterpiece.

The Dark Knight continues a few years after the events of Batman Begins and Batman has become a force to be reckoned with in Gotham City. The new DA in town, Harvey Dent, is putting criminals away legitimately and with public opinion in his favour, Bruce Wayne wants to retire Batman and leave the heroics to Dent so he can concentrate on romancing Rachel Dawes.

Enter the Joker, a gloriously fiendish Heath Ledger, ghoulish make up smeared across a face scarred into a fiendish smile. A wonderfully re-imagined villain, completely apart from Jack Nicholson's blackly comic portrayal, this is a darker, more savage Joker. One that enjoys a laugh sure, but with a predilection for uncompromising violence and a sadism that is unparalleled.

With gripping action and a fantastically well-written script, the two and half hour film is never dull. An all-star cast doesn't disappoint: Michael Caine is on form as dryly witty butler Alfred, Morgan Freeman is right on par as creator of gadgets Lucius Fox, Maggie Gyllenhaal easily outstrips any merits that Katie Holmes might have had and Gary Oldman shows exactly why he's one of Hollywood's best character actors. Special mention should go to Aaron Eckhart who manages to portray Harvey Dent as earnestly likeable and relentlessly dedicated which makes his inevitable downfall all the more moving.

Batman is more than just a guy in a black suit fighting injustice and the Joker more than just the clown prince of crime. Gone is the black and white morality of previous incarnations; good and evil here are shown here in profound shades of grey; chaos and order exist in tandem, inseparable from each other.

And did I mention, Batman's new bike rocks?

With well choreographed action sequences to die for, a clever and engaging plot and some of the most memorable performances you'll ever see in an action movie; this is the film to see in 2008.
